It’s family photo time with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge!
Prince William and Kate Middleton released the first official snapshots of their new family yesterday—and does Prince George look like a little angel or what? All together now: Awwwww!
According to People, the photos were taken by Kate’s dad, Michael, in the Middleton family’s garden in early August. Why not by a professional photographer? William and Kate apparently thought having a family member take them was “the best way to capture the couple in a relaxed manner.” William and Kate are both dressed down, he in a blue button-down and jeans and she in a casual pink dress; Baby George is swaddled in the same blanket in which he left the hospital. The Duke and Duchess’ cocker spaniel, Lupo, also makes an appearance, as does the Middleton family’s retriever, Tilly.

Prince George might be dozing in the photo, but asleep is apparently not his natural state. “He’s a bit of a rascal,” William recently told CNN. “He’s growing quite quickly, actually. But he’s a little fighter—he wriggles around quite a lot and he doesn’t want to go to sleep that much.”
Wills went back to work shortly after the photos were taken, returning to Angelsey, north Wales to resume his position as an RAF search and rescue helicopter pilot; Kate and the baby joined him last week. Although the Duke and Duchess may eschew the traditional royal portrait (maybe they learned from the debacle surrounding Kate’s portrait?), more formal photos of the Cambridges and the rest of the royal and Middleton families are expected to come at George’s christening in the fall.
We hope Baby George is letting you get a little rest in the meantime, Mum and Dad!
